In Microsoft Excel, great tables or even completely different tools can be tinkered with. The grid often plays a major role in this, as they contribute to the basic orientation. But exactly this can also look unsightly if you want to have a clean and tidy user interface. Therefore, today we would like to address the question of how to remove gridlines in Excel or, of course, how to show them again if necessary. This is actually quite simple, as long as you know where the function is hidden.

Hide gridlines in Excel – when does that make sense?

First and foremost, this is all about personal preference. For us, the user interface of a program is a good example. This looks tidy because it is not divided by lines. If I want to build a similar tool in Microsoft Excel, however, the lines remain. And exactly for this reason it can be useful to hide the grid lines in Excel.

Step-by-step instructions:

  • Open Microsoft Excel
  • Switch to the “View” tab
  • In the “Display” group, uncheck “Gridlines” to disable the lines or vice versa
  • Done!
