Excel MIN (formula)

If you work with large data sets and have to estimate a mean value, for example, outliers also play an important role. In such cases, it is important that values that deviate strongly from the average are at least known, since they can falsify the result. To find the smallest values in a data set, the MIN function is useful in Microsoft Excel, since it can check the complete range in a few moments without having to sort or filter data. Using the MIN function is therefore of great importance if you want to find the extreme values in your table. Examples of use of the MIN formula in Excel:

Smallest single value:=MIN(8,3,15,9,10,…)
Smallest value from several cells:=MIN(B3,R8,F2,Z38,…)
Smallest value of a row:=MIN(24:24)
Smallest value of a column:=MIN(P:P)
Smallest value of a range:=MIN(B22:L34)

Syntax:

=MIN(number1,[number2],[number3],…)

Number1

Number can be an absolute value, a (relative or absolute) cell reference, or a cell range (see examples above)
Number2-255
optional
Other values. A total of up to 255 arguments can be processed in a MIN function

The MIN function provides a quick overview of the smallest values in your data set. Note that some exceptions may occur. For example, if your dataset does not contain any numbers, MIN will output the value 0. Also, MIN must not refer to cells with incorrect values, otherwise the function will also return an error. If you consider these cases, nothing stands in the way of a fast and efficient use of the MIN formula! The use of the MAX function is then due to the same application type no more problem!
